Tesco 25% off all wine special
Tesco are currently offering a minimum of 25% off all wine when you buy a dozen bottles online or six bottles in-store. The offer is only valid until midnight November 6, so act quickly if you want to stock up for Christmas.
It’s the season for discounts, as Waitrose currently has a similar deal (also ending Tuesday).
I’ve picked out five great value wines (around £4-7 a bottle) and a couple of Champagnes that would be great for Christmas celebrations.
01 | Tesco Cava Brut £3.74 (normally £4.99)
You won’t find a better sparkling wine for this kind of price anywhere in the UK. The price has crept up slowly in the past year, but at under £4 this is a steal. Perfect for Christmas if you’re catering for a large group.
02 | Tesco Finest 2011 Ken Forrester Chenin Blanc £5.99 (normally £7.99)
This is made by one of the world’s best producers of the chenin blanc grape, in South Africa, and it’s a nice introduction if you’ve never tried chenin before. Give this a go if you want a change from sauvignon blanc.
03 | Tesco Finest 2010 ‘Tingleup’ Riesling £6.00 (normally £9.99)
The wine is like a kick of lemon and lime, with a real zing in the mouth. Great with some spicy food, especially Thai cuisine. With a double discount, meaning 39% off, this white wine offers incredible value for money.
04 | Cono Sur 2010 Pinot Noir Reserva £6.37 (normally £8.49)
Pinot noir is one of those red wine varieties that most people love. This has all the qualities that make it so easy to like: soft, fruity and smooth. It’s a £1 more than Cono Sur’s standard pinot, but worth the upgrade.
05 | Tesco Finest 2007 Vina Mara Rioja Reserva £7.49 (normally £9.99)
A nice example of a wine from Rioja with a little bit of age to it, which gives it some savoury flavours. This goes well with all kinds of meat: from a simple BBQ to a fancy Christmas dinner. A solid buy at under £8.
Plus a couple of Champagnes for Christmas…
01 Heidsieck & Co. Monopole ‘Blue Top’ Champagne £18.74 (normally £24.99)
This is one of the perennially discounted Champagnes for Christmas, but it’s a real step-up from the psuedo-half-price Champagnes that many supermarkets offer. It has that bready/toasty flavour and, above all, it’s delicious.
02 Bollinger ‘Special Cuvee’ Champagne £23.99 (normally £41.99)
At 42% off, this looks as if it has already sold out online… but try in-store. Bollinger make some excellent Champagnes and this is great too, despite being their cheapest. A relative bargain for Christmas at £24.
